A robbanást megelőzően Floridából már többen jelentették, hogy meteorit tart Kuba felé

Az értesülések szerint a Kuba nyugati részén található Pinar del Rióba csapódott be a meteorit. A város Havannától 170 km-re található.

A Juventud Rebelde azt írja, hogy több erős, és hangos robbanás is volt a település több kerületében. Személyi sérülésekről, és anyagi károkról nem számoltak be a lapok, ám a közösségi médiában megjelent fotók, videók alapján ez csak idők kérdése, mert tenyérnyi kövek csapódtak Rinar del Rióba.

A robbanást megelőzően Floridából többen jelentették, hogy meteoritot láttak Kuba irányába haladni.
